Why loyalty matters

Some of your clients choose you because they love you. Others choose you because you were the first result. Loyalty keeps both groups coming back.

Okay, hear me out. There are basically two types of pet boarding clients in your database right now. The first type has been coming to you for years. They know your staff by name. Their dog gets excited when they pull into the parking lot. These clients are not leaving unless something seriously goes wrong. They are already loyal.

The second type chose you because you had good reviews, or because you were nearby, or because you were the first facility they called that had availability during their vacation week. They had a fine experience. But the next time they need boarding, they might Google it again instead of coming back to you automatically.

The second group is where loyalty programs earn their keep. Not because you need to bribe your existing die-hards, but because giving the fence-sitters a concrete, accumulating reason to return changes their default behavior. Instead of Googling "dog boarding near me" every time, they think "we should use the place where Charlie is halfway to his free night."

That is not manipulation. That is just smart business. Every boarding facility competes for the same pool of pet parents in their neighborhood. A loyalty program that tracks automatically and rewards without admin effort is one of the highest-leverage things you can add to your operation.

And here is the thing that surprises most facilities who set this up: the loyalty program surfaces data they never had before. You start seeing which clients are high-frequency, which ones have not been in a while, which ones just hit a milestone and are likely to rebook soon. That data is valuable on its own even before the rewards kick in.

How it works

Print a QR code. Everything else happens automatically.

1
Client scans QR code at drop-off
The QR code lives at your front desk or counter. No hardware beyond a printer. Client opens their camera, scans, confirms their visit in the browser. Takes 10 seconds.
2
Visit is logged and visit count increments
Spokk records the visit against that client's contact. Their loyalty counter goes up by one. They get a confirmation SMS: "Thanks for checking in! You're now at 3 visits. Just 2 more until your free reward."
3
Automation sequence triggers simultaneously
The check-in also triggers the post-visit SMS sequence (feedback, review, referral). You don't have to do anything separately.
4
Reward SMS fires when they hit a milestone
When the client hits visit 5 (or whatever milestone you set), Spokk automatically sends: 'Congrats! You've earned [your reward]. Mention this at your next drop-off to claim it.' You set the reward text.

The data benefit

Visit tracking tells you things about your business that you could not see before.

Before you had visit tracking, your most important business question was probably answered by gut feel. Who are your most loyal clients? Who has not come in a while? Which service is most popular in November? You had a rough sense, but not data.

The loyalty check-in creates a per-visit record for every client, tied to their contact. Over time, the Spokk dashboard surfaces things like: your top 20% of clients by visit frequency, which clients have not been in for more than 60 days (potential churn signal), and which months have the highest boarding volume (capacity planning insight).

That last piece is useful for staffing. If you can see that visits spike in late June and late December, you can plan your seasonal hiring more precisely instead of guessing. And if you know which specific clients have not been in for 90 days, you can reach out proactively with a win-back message before they are fully gone.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the pet boarding loyalty program work in Spokk?
Clients check in via a QR code at your front desk. Spokk logs the visit and increments their visit count. When they hit the milestone you set (say, every 5 visits), Spokk automatically sends them a reward notification via SMS with the reward details you configured. No stamps, no punch cards, no manual tracking.
Can I set multiple loyalty milestones with different rewards?
Yes. You can configure multiple tiers. For example, a small reward at visit 5, a bigger reward at visit 10, and a VIP-level reward at visit 20. Each tier has its own milestone number and reward message. Spoke sends the appropriate SMS when each milestone is hit.
Does the loyalty check-in also trigger the SMS automation sequence?
Yes. The QR code check-in does both simultaneously. It logs the visit for the loyalty program and it triggers the full post-visit SMS automation sequence (feedback request, review nudge, referral invite). One scan starts everything.
What if a client forgets to scan the QR code at drop-off?
Staff can log the visit manually from the Spokk dashboard. It takes about 15 seconds — enter or look up the client, log the visit, done. The loyalty counter still increments and the automation sequence still triggers.
Does the client get told how many visits they have left until their reward?
Yes. The confirmation SMS after check-in includes a count like 'You are 2 visits away from your free reward.' This is a key engagement mechanic — it gives clients a concrete reason to come back to you specifically rather than trying a different facility.
Can the loyalty program work for both boarding and daycare visits?
Yes. Any check-in via the QR code or manual entry counts toward the loyalty program regardless of service type. You can configure it so that all visits count equally, or you can discuss with your team whether to create separate programs for different service types.
Does the loyalty program require an app?
No. The QR code check-in works entirely in the client's phone browser. No app download required for either the client or your staff. The facility just needs the QR code printed and displayed — that is it.
How does Spokk handle the reward redemption?
Spokk sends the reward notification SMS automatically when a milestone is hit. The reward message you configured tells the client what they have earned and how to claim it — typically by mentioning it at their next visit or drop-off. Redemption tracking is a manual process at your end.
Can I see which clients are close to a milestone reward?
Yes. The Spokk dashboard shows visit counts per client, so you can see who is at visit 4 (one away from a 5-visit reward), who just hit a milestone, and who your highest-visit VIP clients are.
What does the loyalty program cost?
The loyalty program is included in all Spokk plans — it is not a separate add-on. Plans start at $59/month for up to 250 active customers. There is a 14-day free trial with all features unlocked.
